Be patient and wait for the Lord to act; don't be worried about those who prosper or those who
succeed in their evil plans. Don't give in to worry or anger; it only leads to trouble. Psalm 37:7

You work and worry your way through life, and what do you have to show for it? As long as you
live, everything you do brings nothing but worry and heartache. Even at night your mind can't
rest. It is all useless. The best thing a man can do is eat and drink and enjoy what he has
earned. And yet, I realized that even this comes from God. How else could you have anything to
eat or enjoy yourself at all? Ecclesiastes 2:22-25

Your Father in heaven knows that you need all these things. Instead, be concerned above
everything else with what he requires of you, and he will provide you with all these other things.
So do not worry about tomorrow; it will have enough worries of its own. There is no need to add
to the troubles each day brings. Matthew 6:32-34

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you,
and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my
yoke is easy, and my burden in light. Matthew 11:28-30

And the quality of each person's work will be seen when the Day of Christ exposes it. For on that
Day fire will reveal everyone's work; the fire will test it and show its real quality. If what was built
on the foundation survives the fire, the builder will receive a reward. But if anyone's work is burnt
up, then he will lose it; but he himself will be saved, as if he had escaped through the fire.
I Corinthians 3:13-15

So then my dear brothers, stand firm and steady. Keep busy always in your work for the Lord,
since you know that nothing you do in the Lord's service is ever useless. I Corinthians 15:58

PRAYERS

God of compassion: You watch over all the affairs of people, and You weave out of terrible
happenings wonders of goodness and grace. Surround _____ who has been shaken with
economic uncertainty. Give to him a sense of your present love and hold him in faith. Help him to
make wise and courageous decisions. Though he feels lost, may he find You and be comforted.
Amen.

God of comfort: as _____ feel the stress in their lives, there are moments when they feel terribly
alone. Do not allow tensions to separate them from one another; overcome accusations and
blame with support and encouragement. Help them to receive the care of friends who want to
include them. May they share not only the pain, but also the pleasures that affirm their worth and
dignity. In moments of solitude may they be cheered by your Spirit. We pray this in the name of
Jesus who came as a friend and who is our Lord forever. Amen.

Lord God: You have made us co-workers with you in the world. But _____ has lost her job. She
faces many adjustments and worries. She may have to move. Watch over her, and give her
patience and perseverance as she searches for employment. Give her a strong sense of
self-worth that she may offer her best self. We pray that doors will open for her. Help us shape a
world where everyone's contribution can be fairly compensated and add to the common good.
Amen.

Eternal God: in your will our lives are lived. We pray for graduates who are beginning their
careers. We pray for those who are ending their careers and are retiring. Take away anxieties,
and fill the years ahead with a sense of purpose. May they enjoy the rewards of their labors. And
may they use their skills to bring fulfillment to themselves, assistance to their neighbors, and
glory to You. We pray this in the name of Jesus who came to serve. Amen.

O God: You have made a world where people may join together to get things done according to
your will. Let your Spirit be with _____ and _____ . Bring understanding between them as
employer and employee. Do not let greed blind them to basic needs, or make them careless of
one another. May wages be fair and work be worthy. Where there are grievances, help them
settle affairs justly that they can work productively for their mutual benefit. Amen.
