ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL
An on-going adult class meets every Sunday morning in the Witherspoon Room
beginning at 8:45.  The class is dismissed at 9:30, so choir members can
prepare for worship.  Chuck Moore leads the class with Rev. Ken Honius
substituting.

For the current quarter, the class will study in The Present Word, a
non-denominational curriculum endorsed by the Presbyterian Church (USA).
This material is Bible based with the current lessons based on Acts of the
Apostles.  The format of the class is discussion.  Everyone is welcome.

Occasionally additional short-term classes are offered for personal faith
development or to equip people for particular ministries.  These classes usually
meet in Knox Lounge.

Journeys through Revelation
Apocalyptic Hope for Today
Many people’s impression of the book of Revelation is one of violence and
calamity upon the earth. It has mysterious numbers like "666 to spell destruction,
militant locusts and multi-headed beasts that terrify, a Babylonian seducer of
nations and an end times battle of Armageddon. But it provokes curiosity.
Novels, video games, and movies that have marketed Revelation.

Revelation is a difficult book of the Bible, full of mysterious symbolism. Its 22
chapters can be intimidating but the message is meant to be one of hope to
sustain in times of tyranny and oppression. It is rich in songs of praise to God
and Jesus. It takes us back to know the struggling churches in the Roman
Empire 2000 years ago.

Visions that John of Patmos reveal to us are to remind us that God is worthy of
our praise and allegiance. His will is for the healing of nations. Guiding
principles for this study include: historical content, range of interpretations but
not "anything goes," looking beyond a literal approach, a message of hope and
not fear, reading it aloud in community and exploring the sense of urgency for
God’s realm.

Revelation leads us to the final vision of heaven coming to earth, where God’s
dwelling is in our midst.

Our author for this study is Barbara R. Rossing, a Lutheran pastor and professor
of the New Testament. She has written articles and books on Revelation, early
Christian prophecy, biblical preaching, and ecology. She is writing a book on
apocalypse and global climate change. She has served as a chaplain. She
serves on the Executive Committee and council of the Lutheran World
Federation.
The Koinonia Women's Fellowship is a group of women who meet for the
purpose of Christian fellowship, fun, and Bible study.  No offerings are taken
and no dues are required.  The group does fund raisers as the need arises
for special projects. The Koinonia women meet specifically for the purpose of
Christian fellowship and support and friendship, and to plan and provide fun
and meaningful activities for the women of Westminster.

The Koinonia Women's Fellowship Group meets the second Saturday of the
month at 9:30 a.m. at BenLees for Bible study and fellowship.  We also go on
several fun outings during the year. We share this information in the monthly
Chime newsletter.

We do a variety of cleaning projects in the church and also various
fundraising activities including a Westminster cookbook that was published
in 2006.  Our newest fundraiser, the second Nativity Experience, is a joint
effort with the Westminster Piecemakers, our church quilting group.  Last
year, we had over 70 nativity sets that were put on display including antiques,
whimsical, traditional and homemade.  This year’s Nativity Experience will be
held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.
